  • Types of Gold

    Hi all!

Let's talk about gold. Not all golds are the same!!

Common gold types you will see here are

10k, 14k, 18, and 24k. There is also 9k and other types such as 15k!

24k gold is also written as 999 which is considered to be pure gold.

    • It is the softest and most delicate
    • It is often the most yellow in color
    • Must be careful because even slight pressure can change its shape
    • Has no other metals added to it so those with allergies to other types of metals will be least likely to be sensitive/allergic

18k gold is also written as 750 and is considered to be 75% pure gold

    • It is more durable than 24k but still a higher amount of gold than the other types- the 25% of other metals can be zinc, copper, nickel, palladium, or silver
    • Comes in yellow, rose and white gold
    • Many can wear this even if they have some allergies to other types of metals
14k gold is also written as 583 or 585 and is 58.3% gold.
    • It is considered to be the most wearable type of gold.
    • Comes in yellow, rose and white gold
    • Many can still wear this purity of gold without sensitivity
10k gold is also written as 417 and is 41.7%
    • Has the lowest amount of gold in it which makes it the most durable
    • Comes in yellow, white and rose gold
    • Can cause sensitivity to wearers causing rash and skin irritation
You should regularly clean your gold with a mild soap, jewelry cleaner and water! You can use a soap tooth brush or a ultrasonic to clean jewelry (but be careful if you have gemstones too- see our other blog- how to care for your jewelry)
